Food Statement of Intent

I don't think it would be any big stretch to say that most people with eating disorders are afraid of food. I know I am. There is not a bite that passes through my lips that I don't fear. Fat, calories, carbs, the very taste and texture can be terrifying.

So in this section I hope to provide a list of foods and food plans that others can find safer. I hold no delusions that these lists won't be used for weight loss, restriction, etc. But I firmly believe that any food is better than no food at all for the human body - the dangers of prolonged fasting are far greater than those of restriction, when at least some nutrition is given to the body. Your vital organs will shut down and, yes, eventually die if deprived of all food; but when you are taking in calories, even in small amounts, you are giving your body the fuel it needs to maintain at least minimal functioning. You will keep your heart pumping, brain working, digestive system moving longer than if you were to not eat at all. You've heard a million times before, but I will say it again: eating disorders kill, whether you are binging, purging, restricting, or fasting. Certain "methods" will just kill you faster than others.

I do not want these diseases to claim any more lives; I know I cannot stop anyone from from harming herself, either. I hope that you will use the lists provided here to find something you can feel comfortable eating, something that will feel as safe as food can be with an eating disorder.
